My journey with the Kimkins way of eating began on August 25, 2006. My struggle with weight issues began after the birth of my daughter back in 1996. I had ballooned to an all time high weight of 190 lbs. It took me approximately 5 years to get back down to 145 lbs by various methods; Atkins, weight training, cardio, low fat. However, the weight crept back on within a year. It crept up to 170 lbs and was wavering between 165 and 170 lbs no matter what I tried. I even joined a martial arts school back in October 2004 and religiously attended 5 to 6 times per week. Sure, I became stronger and more flexible, but the weight never came off. I joined a cardio boot camp in the spring of 2006; where I attended 5 mornings per week for 3 months straight; this was on top of my martial arts training. No weight came off! Then I was in a car accident in June 2006; so all my physical activity came to a screeching halt….
Even though my physical activity was mostly non-existent, I was able to maintain the 165 to 170 lb range. But I was feeling more depressed and feeling unhappier with my body image. I began to do some research. In August 2006, through an online community, I came across the name Kimkins. I logged onto the site and took a look around. At first, I thought there is no way that this can work. So I left it alone for a few weeks. One night I decided to bite the bullet and spend the nominal fee and go for it. Within the first week, I had lost 8 pounds. Wow! To me that is phenomenal. To see excellent results so quickly is the best motivation you can think of.
I remember after about 2 weeks on the plan, I seemed to be stalling. I asked Kimmer for some advice and help. She took a look at what I was eating and advised me to make adjustments. I followed her advice and began losing again. By November 2006, I had lost a total of 35 pounds. My current weight is 135 lbs. Today’s date is May 15, 2007 and I have maintained this weight. I have re-introduced carbs back into my diet. I religiously hop on the scale every morning and if the scale creeps up a little, I just make some adjustments by cutting back on the carbs and the weight falls off almost immediately.
Many things have changed in my life because of this way of eating. My martial arts abilities have improved tremendously. Because of my improved self-image, my depression and anxiety have all but disappeared and I just started my dream job. And of course, my husband loves it!
The community support on the Kimkins website is amazing! Whenever I feel like cheating or am feeling emotional, I would log onto the website. Sometimes I would post but most of the time I would read, read, read … this was instrumental in keeping me on track. Without the support of this community and the wonderfully remarkable support of Kimmer herself, I truly believe that I would not be where I am today. Thank you so much!
Love Bonnie
