Obesity and Psoriasis Connection |
|
|
Overweight women may have a higher incidence of psoriasis.
Researchers studied 78,626 women for 14 years, it was discovered the
risk of psoriasis was 40% higher for overweight women. Women who
gained 55+ pounds since age 18 had an 88% greater risk.
Arathi Setty, MD, of Harvard Medical School reports fat deposits can
cause chronic low grade inflammation that may trigger the autoimmune
disease.

Lynne Lost 94 Lbs With Kimkins! |
|
|
Start Weight: 283
Current Weight: 189
Total Loss: 94+ so far!
Lynne's Doctor Calls Her "A Miracle"!
Hi,
my name is Lynne, I am 51 years old and about a year ago I was in a
really bad place. After a total of 12 surgeries on my knees ending with
both being replaced, the doctors told me that within 3 months I would
be permanently confined to a wheelchair. There was nothing medically
that could be done for me. I was so depressed. My husband of 26 years
and I started handicapping our home, and trying to figure out how we
would care for me when I could no longer care for myself.
On June 6, 2007 (my rebirth day) I was shopping for groceries and spotted the Woman's World magazine about Kimkins.
I had some previous experience with low carb dieting, but not a lot of
success. I came on the [Kimkins] web site and felt like I had come
home. After signing up and starting this new Way of Life, I could not
believe that it was really happening for me. I was just sort of
lurking, and reading posts, but not really participating. I would post
little bits, but then I got my very first PM and and invitation to join
a challenge [First 20/20].
When I saw the results these women had I was amazed, but they wanted me
to post all the time. My lurking days were numbered. By getting to know
these particular women my whole world has changed. Having a support
group of true friends has changed my life. I truly believe that with
their help Kimkins has saved my life.
Now after losing almost 100 pounds and
I still will lose more. I walk between 3 and 4 miles everyday just
because I can. It is actually fun! I have learned to belly dance and I
work out regularly with weights. My energy levels are unbelievable.
I go every 6 months to see my doctor
and my blood work is all within the normal ranges for the first time in
my life. At his office they call me the "incredible shrinking woman".
The doc who gave me the wheelchair sentence calls me "a miracle" and is continually surprised by my progress. At my last visit he shared with me that when before I started Kimkins he was thinking I would not even be alive in 3 years. But
now he told me there is nothing holding me back from doing whatever I
want to do. He tells me that I know best and I should just go and do.
My life is waiting.
When I started Kimkins a year ago, I
wore a size 26/28, I currently wear a 10/12. My BMI has dropped from 50
when I started to 34 now. I have lost 12 inches from my waist and 14
inches from my hips since I started. These are just some of the
physical changes I have experienced, but the most exciting for me is
that I actually get to participate in life -- not just watch from the
sidelines.
As if that isn’t enough I find I like myself now. I never realized that I didn’t before, but I sure do now.

Kimkins Members Help Each Other |
|

A recent post in the Kimkins member forums:
"Hello,
Joined
Kimkins a year or so ago and have tried to start it several times, but
always fell away. I read the testimonials and I know its possible, but
it doesn't seem possible for me. I'm SO addicted to the sweets, they
are my drug and I know that. I try so hard to stay away from them and I
just can't seem to do it. I went to the dr yesterday and am at an all
time high of 250 [pounds].
I gotta do something, I just have to!
But I feel so hopeless, I feel like I'm going to be this fat forever!
It's the worst feeling and it makes me want to eat more!
I am
such a naturally positive person, I don't understand where all this
negativity has come from! UGH it's frustrating!!!! I need a coach or a
sponsor or something! Anyway, I get paid tomorrow and plan to shop for
my groceries Sunday (I'm working back to back 12 hour shifts starting
at 7am tomorrow) and starting Monday morning ....
Fingers crossed ... Can I do it this time? God, I pray so!"

Read Finlee's insightful reply:
"You have an addiction that is calling all the shots in your life. It has its hands around your neck for sure.
Is the sugar
worth your life? In this instance I would say, "Can it kill you?"
Diabetes, cancer, all of that is possible. You really need to look at
not as what it's doing to you now, but what potential it has for taking
the rest of your life away -- high cholesterol, high blood pressure.
How old are you? It may have you for the rest of your life, but it's
also dictating how long you have left.
When I started this
program, I really felt I was on short time. Between the high
cholesterol, elevated blood sugar, family history of diabetes and heart
problems -- and being 51-- it was short time. For some of us it comes
to, "Will it kill you?" If you are smart you will answer, "YES," and
that's not even including the debilitating depression that goes with
the bad food choices (for me).
I fired my taste buds -- just
fired them and took the control back. This is war is one you have to
win. Stubborness goes a long way to getting and keeping control of your
life. Every day I put out fires. I have failures. But you know what,
it's not about the failures, it's about getting back up on your feet
afterward and refusing to give up. In the end my taste buds had taken
over and were ruling my whole life 24/7 and I got to tell you that out
of that 24 hours (and 15 minutes eating the sugar if you are a slow
eater) the math did not add up.
The taste on my tongue was not worth my life.
Do
some journaling and really take stock. You need to really evaluate your
life and the enemy. In the end, this [Kimkins] is the best place for
you. People have your back here [Kimkins]. Join a weekly [challenge]
group and post often. Get to know others. Daily, sometimes even hourly,
support can be had and might be needed to win this war.
Good
luck. Hope to see you taking action and getting the life you never
thought in all your dreams you could have! Remember -- You have the control until you hand it back. Stay way from the first bite of the addicting food!"
