It's easier than you think to get daily exercise for type 2 diabetics.
Have
you ever raced around the house to get the dusting and vacuuming done,
ending up exhausted? Have you noticed your blood glucose level gets low
whenever you mow the lawn? You're experiencing the evidence that you
don't need to go to the gym to use exercise to reduce your blood sugar
levels.
Any activity will do it — and while activity is helpful
for managing your diabetes, you must take care not to end up
hypoglycemic after each bout of movement.
The U.S. Surgeon
General suggests 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five
days per week. Moderate intensity is anything that raises your heart
rate, including cleaning. Thirty minutes sounds like a lot, but you
don't have to do it all at once. Any activity that increases your heart
rate for 10 minutes or more can count toward your exercise goal.
And
it's easy to fit in three 10-minute sessions. Here are some examples of
ways to increase the benefits of everyday activities:
* Mow your lawn with a push mower
* Move furniture when you vacuum
* Chop wood
* Wash the floor on your hands and knees
So, go ahead. Dismiss the housekeeper and the lawn crew — do these household chores yourself and build a healthier you!
