Hi Everyone! My name is Diane and I’m a grateful Kimkins loser!
.
I’ve had a problem with overeating from the time I was a child. When I was 9 years old my pediatrician put me on a diet. I remember losing 14 lbs but gained it all back. As I got into my early teens and “discovered boys” I seemed to have more of an incentive to lose weight, so I would diet, lose some weight, put it back on, repeat, repeat. I was always about 15 lbs. overweight, never reaching a normal weight.
.
I’ve yo-yo dieted all my life, losing and regaining the same 20-25 lbs over and over again. In 1982 I was diagnosed with severe hypoglycemia which explained the food cravings I always seemed to have, but never knew why. About that time I found an old copy of Dr. Atkins book, published in the 1970s, and “sort of” followed his plan.
.
Whenever I would diet I would do low-carb without the high fat. It always worked to get the weight off, but I would go back to my old ways and gain it all back. Repeat, repeat, losing and regaining the same 20 lbs.
.
In 1997 I was up to 172 and decided to get serious about losing weight. I ate mostly fish, chicken, turkey and veggies and would go for about 2 weeks, binge for a few days, gain a few back, go back on my plan, lose a few more, binge, gain a few back. Three steps forward and 2 1/2 back. At that rate it took me a year and a half to lose 40 lbs but finally got down to 132 in l998. I was thrilled.
.
Then my mother died (I had been her caretaker since my father died in l992.) Between the grieving, a major relocation, and an unhealthy relationship, I began my old patterns of stress eating and ended up at 160 lb in 2004, doing the yo-yo dieting in between.
.
Shortly after, the doctor put me on some medication that caused a 20 lb gain in about 2 months, bringing me into the 180s, an all time high.
.
I was smoking at the time and having terrible coughing spells and knew I had to quit. Upon quitting I gained another 30 lbs in just a few months, bringing me to lifetime high of 210 lb. That was a 50 lb gain in less than a year!
.
I was so depressed and in physical pain from the weight gain. I also became a “couch potato” living for the TV Guide listings for the first time in my life, hardly leaving the house (working from home made that easy).
.
I tried low carbing again but could only seem to stay with it for a week or so, regaining every pound back. I’d finally reached my bottom and had given up. .
.
Then one day I was doing an internet search of “low carb” and came across “Kimkins“. It all sounded way too good to be true. There are so many off-the-wall diet plans out there and I didn’t want to fail yet again. So I did a search on “Kimmer” and found her previous posts on another low carb site.
.
What jumped out at me was that she was sharing her experience with her own plan with the others, and so many people would post questions to her. I read endless pages and pages of questions to her and saw her patiently answer every single one of them, and I’m thinking to myself, “This lady has to be for real, she obviously cares about helping others, and especially with no compensation for her time.” That did it for me, I signed up that day.
.
My losses haven’t been as fast as some of the others. With my blood sugar issues I have to eat 4-5 times per day and have had to consume more food than most of our losers. But I’ve followed the plan, and my symptoms of hypoglycemia have dramatically improved over the last several months.
.
Perseverance has paid off. I’m still not where I want to be, but have no doubt that I will get there, and soon.
.
This is by far the easiest weight I’ve ever lost! The food plan takes away the cravings, and the support on the website has been key for me at staying focused and not doing my usual going off plan every 2 weeks.
.
I’ve finally accepted the fact that I will never be able to go back to my old ways of eating; and to be honest — after being on this food plan for so long now — I don’t even have the desire to do that. I feel too good!
.
Kimkins has totally changed my life!
