The Fastest and Quickest Loss Ever In My Life!
.
My weight loss struggle began when I reached my middle 40's. When I remarried in 1987 I was about 135 pounds. During the course of the next 20 years, the pounds just kept adding on. Some of this was due to my working schedule. I always worked the night shifts, usually 10 or 12 hour shifts. I worked for many years in the medical field, but did work as a 911 dispatcher for about 4 years, adding even more pounds as I ate because of stress. I later returned to the medical field doing sleep studies, requiring a 12 hour shift again.
.
In 1999 I had my first symptoms of what would take about 5 years to diagnosis. It started with tinnitus in the first year, and progressed to episodes of vertigo and vomiting. By November of 2001 I was no longer able to do my job. Over the next few years, I developed profound loss of hearing on one side, along with the loss of balance function. By 2003, I finally received the diagnosis of Meniere's Disease.
.
The depression caused by the isolation I felt due to the hearing loss, and the inability to do many of the daily routines of a normal life only lead to further weight gain. It took almost a year for me to be able to walk without falling, unless I was going along a wall. The episodes of vertigo and vomiting lessened, but the anxiety caused by never knowing when an attack would happen caused even more withdrawal from social events. Loud noises, large crowds, weather changes ... all could precipitate an attack. Since these same conditions can still cause problems, I still avoid a lot of social events because of that.
.
Finally by 2006, even though my balance issues and hearing difficulty remain the same, the vertigo attacks lessened and I began trying to regain my life back. I had also been taking care of my mom in my home, but her declining health made it necessary to place her in a nursing home. That was in June of 2006, and that was when I also started to take charge of my health, beginning with the obesity.
.
On June 1, 2006, I started the Atkins way of eating. I had done that in the past and had some success with it. I have the original Atkins book, the 1972 version, so I had lots of practice. I was finding that, since I could not really exercise due to the imbalance/dizziness issue, I was going to have to go much stricter to lose the weight. I also was tired of being obese and wanted to lose a good portion of it quickly.
.
That is when I decided to do the KE/Kimkins plan. Around the 18th of June I started doing strict KE, and by November I had lost 68 pounds, putting me at 164. The fastest and quickest loss ever in my life!
.
Now that I was looking fairly normal, I wanted to slow it down and hopefully feel comfortable enough to continue on to a healthy weight for my 5'3" size.
.
I decided at this time to modify my eating, and add more fats into my food plans. I researched many other low carb sites, also, one of my favorites being LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com with Jimmy Moore. I also used sites to help determine the calorie deficit I needed to reach my goal weight, considering my fairly sedentary lifestyle up to this point.
.
I settled on a short term goal of 1-2 pounds per week. Sometimes I made it, and sometimes I didn't, but I never considered it a failure if I didn't. Instead, I would look at my Fitday weight graph. To see the number there was all it took to convince me to stick to it.
.
I still eat low carb, adequate protein, and do adjust calories based on my carb intake. I often have Designer Whey protein shakes as a meal replacement because I like them. I have now combined several eating plans to suit my needs, and my way of eating evolves from day to day. I give credit to all the information I have learned from many websites, plus the support of others who support the low carb lifestyle.
.
By December, I was starting to go to my local Kohls store at the mall to do a little walking. They were kind enough to let me take one of the shopping carts out into the mall area, and I would walk for maybe an hour, albeit at a fairly slow pace. I tried to do this at least 3 times per week. I also have to say that being smaller certainly helped with finding things on the bargain racks!
.
I began my journey wearing size 22W and 42DD bras, now wearing size 4 (junior 5) and size 34C bras. I reached GOAL at 129 lbs. on April 18, 2007.
.
I am disabled due to hearing loss and constant imbalance issues from the Meniere's. Losing the 100 pounds did not change that fact. It did, however, make getting up from a fall a lot easier (to say nothing of hitting the ground lighter).
.
Within the past month, my doctor started me on some balance-retraining physical therapy to hopefully make walking easier and less chance of falling. The therapist recommended Trekking Poles, so I ordered them and soon will be trying that out.
.
Hopefully, I will be able to walk around my neighborhood without having to depend on my husband to go with me. (And I haven't seen any shopping carts on the sidewalks, either!) I also will be getting my German Shepherd puppy next month, and will be self training it for hearing alert and balance assistance.
.
I tell my story (even though I am embarrassed to show some of these photos) so that others can believe in themselves enough to win the battle against obesity. If I can do this, anyone can! I only ask that you try to overlook the wrinkles on this "almost" 62 year old happy face.
.
There are many great low carb sites available. You have to pick out the information that you can use for your body. We are all different. The success lies in being committed to yourself.

Laura Lost 35 Pounds in 6 Weeks

My story starts back in November 2007. I went to a family reunion and saw my Aunt who I hadn't seen in a year and she had lost about 50 pounds! I was amazed by how good she looked and asked her what the secret was and she told me all about Kimkins.
.
I wanted to lose weight so bad and had tried every diet since the birth of my daughter 4 years earlier. I tried Weight Watchers, I tried watching my calories, I tried the starvation diet, I tried no sugar & whole grains -- pretty much every thing you could think of. I spent hundreds of dollars on diet pills and tons of hours killing myself in the gym. Nothing worked.
.
I felt so discouraged and a failure. I hated being over weight, I felt like people just saw me as a ‘fat girl' and not as the kind, loving mother that I was. It felt horrible. I never wanted people to see me eat because I felt like they were judging me and thinking, "She shouldn't be eating that."
.
I decided that starting on Monday, December 30th 2007 I would start Kimkins. I knew in my head it would work. I thought if it worked for my Aunt it would work for me.
.
After Christmas I went on the Kimkins website and read everything from the diet plans to the grocery lists. That Monday morning was the first day of my diet and I weighed in at 198 pounds. The first week was hard. I did feel hungry without my usual high carb foods and a little sluggish, but I knew it was the transition to ketosis.
.
That week I spent a lot of time in the Kimkins Chat Room, asking question to all the Kimkins veterans. The following Monday I weighed myself and I weighed 187. I lost 11 pounds in one week! I was so happy! I knew I could stick with this diet. The weighed just kept falling off. By the middle of February (6 weeks after I started) I had lost 35 pounds. I stayed on Kimkins for six more months and lost a total of 50 pounds. I went from a size 16 to a size 8!
.
Now it's a year later and I am maintaining my weight. I follow the Kimkins diet Monday through Friday and usually take the weekends off from dieting. I feel wonderful. I feel so healthy and in control. This is the first time in my life I feel like I have the secret to weight loss and the power to control my weight. I get tons of compliments and it feels great!
.
I wish I could tell everyone about this program and how it really works. Just remember don't cheat and really stick to the diet. When I first started Kimkins I had a goal in my head to just make it 2 weeks without cheating and see where my weight was. Of course once I saw I had lost almost 20 pounds I knew I had to keep it up.
.
This diet is so easy to do even when you're cooking for a family. My family's favorite meal is grilled chicken, grilled yellow neck squash and for the ‘carb eaters' rice or potatoes. I always keep Crystal Light around the house and work. It kills the urge to cheat plus taste really good!
.
I promise you coming from an overweight single mother, you can do this! Just stick with the diet, don't cheat and get support for the website. I'm here if anyone needs to talk out a craving!

.
Add veggies to the starches! Add finely chopped spinach to mashed potatoes. Add chopped broccoli to steamed rice. Make Pasta Primavera with lots of broccoli, carrots and peas! The egg protein in fried rice helps cut carbs, too (or try adding pork, chicken, shrimp or beef).
.
The added veggies, egg or meat protein bulk up to the rice to make extra servings. Each serving is now rice plus lower carb veggies or protein!
.
And what better way to get extra veggies into the kiddies? If your kids are veggies loves then 2 thumbs up! But if they aren't then try finely chopping veggies and adding everywhere: scrambled eggs, rice, spaghetti sauce, potatoes, grilled sandwiches or pasta salads.
.
By adding veggies you'll gain extra nutrition and cut the glycemic carb impact by 25% or more. See how adding veggies drops the carbs in rice by 30%:

Some of the common complaints regarding exercise I’ve heard repeatedly are: “I just don’t like to exercise!” “I don’t like to sweat!” “I don’t like to be all sore after working out.”

Let’s take a look at the common garden slug. I envision those slimy white critters that slowly slink and slither along the ground in our gardens and nibble on our tomatoes and other garden delicacies, getting fatter and juicier with each bite. I remember battling them in the garden with various home remedies to save the fruits of my labor.

We’d sprinkle salt on them and they’d bubble up and die. We’d save empty egg shells, crush them and sprinkle them around the base of the plants. When the slug would slither through the shells, the shells would stick to the slug and they wouldn’t be able to move and they’d die. As a last resort we’d buy diatomaceous earth, a powdered rock substance used as a non-toxic insecticide and sprinkle it around the plants. It would be comparable to us crawling through shards of glass.

Can you see several parallels between your fat loss journey and the journey of the garden slug?

First, when you don’t feel good – lack of energy, feel fat and sloppy, no energy – how do you move? Do you walk confidently with a bounce in your step? Do you hold our head up high? Are you able to keep up with your family and kids or grand kids when they want to do physical activities? Or do you “crawl” around, barely getting through the day? Exercise will increase your energy level, give you confidence and improve your quality of life. Do you want to continue to sit on the sidelines and watch everyone else having fun?

Next, what happens when you over indulge in salty foods? Do you bloat up and get puffy? What are those salty foods? Fast food? Potato chips? Sausage? Cheese? Table salt? Cutting back on sodium intake will not only help reduce fluid retention, but it will also help with fat loss when you consider the high sodium content of some of our favorite foods which are laden with calories. Reducing sodium intake will also help to reduce high blood pressure.

The eggshell analogy – when you are feeling fat and sloppy, without energy, bloated and puffy – isn’t it hard to move? You sort of get “stuck” where you are at and it’s hard to get unstuck and get moving. Check out this article from ABC News Health Idling Toward Death: Sitting Linked to Dying Early

As for the diatomaceous earth comparison, I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of a single food I would be willing to crawl through broken glass to reach. Maybe that's the mental image we can stick in our minds when we're tempted to act and eat like a slug? (Kkat, does that help?)

There are many things in our lives we don’t “like” to do but are necessary for survival and healthy living – work, pay bills, cook, clean house, do laundry, do dishes. Those are just a few of the tasks I’d rather not have to do on a daily basis, but I push through and just get them done.

For your health, can you maybe just look at exercise as one of those things you “have to do”, like paying your bills? Take your exercise one day at a time, just like we do with our food journey and paying bills ~ one day at a time ~ one task at a time ~ one choice at a time. It will help you lose fat quicker and your quality of life will be improved.

Several members have asked for a morning stretching routine. I will post an easy routine in the [Kimkins] Morning Workout thread. Perhaps if you do this simple routine each morning before you get out of bed for the day, you’ll feel better and be more inspired to do more exercise.

Total Loss: 131 lbs (1st 40 lbs with Atkins)
.
Hello Beautiful People!
.
My name is Delaney. I used to be a bit private about my actual weight and diet, but I've found it really does help me to share my experiences with others. I hope that my story will give some hope to even just one person struggling in a position similar to what I have come from.
.
A little background information here. I'm 33 years old and a college graduate (Theatre and Music). I love anything that gives me a creative/ artistic outlet, whether be it singing, painting, writing ... along with the social aspects of working with others in productions.
.
I am single and do not have children, but am a very proud aunty and am hoping my new found weight loss will give me more confidence and opportunities when it comes to dipping my feet into the dating world again.
.
I first discovered and did Atkins in Jan 2001. At the time I had hit the 200 pound mark and wanted to make a change. I was working in a pharmacy as a clerk (while going to college) and saw lots of customers buying ketone strips and grabbing the Atkins book off the rack. I picked up a copy during a break one day, ended up buying it and started the diet shortly there after. Over the course of four months I lost some decent weight ... and I have to say looked pretty darned cute. I felt good and loved it! People seemed to treat me different, smile at me a lot, open doors -- it is weird how many areas that were affected positively for me.
.
Winter 2004 I developed a mysterious sinus problem that turned into an infection, then moved to my chest and gave me pneumonia. At the time I was pushing myself to finish school/credits. I think not taking time to rest hurt me greatly, but the end result was that I did not really get better. For the next year and a half or so my sinuses remained over-active and nothing helped. I developed chronic pneumonia. I became pretty much a lump because just making it outside to the mail box was hard to do with my breathing difficulties. Needless to say, it was a difficult time for me.
.
I had just graduated and should have been out performing, seeking grad school, something, but instead was stuck in a tiny apartment sick without end, unable to sing, and unable to actually hold a regular job as well (I sat through interviews with my nose running and hacking up stuff).
.
As it turned out, my illness was caused by toxic mold that was hiding inside the walls, under the carpet, etc. of my apartment. The place had been flooded several times from various sources (a bit of a story), and never had been properly cleaned/restored. So, what made me sick was breathing in all those spores, having an allergic response to them, and having them actually form a little resort colony in my lungs!
.
I moved out of the rot hole in Sept 2005, and then focused on getting better. It took quite a while to recover. It was really summer 2006 until I started to feel healthy and able to breathe clear again, because even with the removal of the mold I had a lot of healing to do ... especially in my lungs. Not only was my respiratory system hit, but after being physically inactive for so long (after being someone who used to bike and walk everywhere), and being on steroids I had put on a startling amount of weight.
.
I think, to be honest, at one point I was around the 320 mark. I am not fully positive because I did not have a scale for a while that could weigh that high, and I put off getting one because I just did not want to see it. Late spring 2006 I started Atkins again and put off maybe 25 pounds or so (not sure what my start weight was). Then a friend and her young daughter moved in with me and I was bad and went off plan which resulted in regaining the initial loss.
.
You all most likely know how it goes, you keep telling yourself you are going to start soon ... next week, after this day, etc. Well, I finally did start again in November 2006 (at approx 314 -- that was the first solid number I could get a scale to produce for me after about two weeks of dieting). By March 2007 I had managed to put off about 40 pounds with Atkins, but it was slow going and I hit a long stall in my loss.
.
I was participating on another diet message board community where I discovered many people were having amazing success following the Kimkins plan. I switched over from Atkins, and soon saw the weight coming off again, and at a much faster rate then I had experienced before. Something that was very encouraging given how much I weighed. I was told that Kimkins had its own website, and joined with the discovery of a community with positive, specialized support for the plan.
.
I no longer had to feel ashamed or struggle with my weight loss in silence. I found a place where people were welcoming and understood what I was going through. The combination of both the diet and the community support were priceless to me when I saw the resulting loss.
.
There were no extra fees, no pills, no expensive pre-packaged tasteless foods. Before discovering Kimkins I had been fearing the need for a weight loss surgery, which scared me due to all the risks ... not to mention the cost. I personally knew someone who had died from a blood clot to her lungs after having the gastric bypass procedure done.
.
It is now a year after joining Kimkins, and I am under 200 pounds and enjoying life in a way I had worried I never would again. The last year was a difficult one for me personally having experienced family death and situations that sometimes interrupted my diet plans ... thus my weight loss was slower then if I had been able to stick to things completely. BUT, despite everything that has happened, I still have seen amazing weight loss that has continued to come off. If I have managed to do it through everything that has transpired this last year, most anyone else could manage it around their life schedules as well.
.
I have never had to go hungry. I eat and make tasty meals with fresh meat and produce from local stores, and I did not have to exhaust myself with hard-core exercise (though I now I hit a treadmill now and then more for toning than weight loss).
.
So much has changed for me in the course of the last year. I can move freely without struggle or lack of breath, run (well, not that I like to!), fit into theatre and airplane seats, have a wide variety of fun clothing options and am no longer held back by my size from the things that I enjoy.
.
It is so true though, that people treat you differently when you are obese. I have seen the full scope of it. When I was at my lowest weight a few years ago, complete strangers were always so quick to smile, chat, be helpful, compliment me ... both male and female.
.
However, when I almost doubled my size it was like I had become invisible in comparison. I am sure some of you will know what I mean. It's like people shift their eyes off or around you, shove past you for things like you're not there ... without bothering to say anything. Doors are rarely held open and sales clerks practically ignore you. I often was treated as if I was of lower intelligence or uneducated simply because of my size -- the rudeness and behavior was both a frustrating and heartbreaking experience.
.
I am still a work in progress with my loss, but now I have nothing but positive thoughts and prospects for the future. I owe that to Kimkins and the amazing people in the community here. I have also enjoyed the opportunity to help others starting out, answer their questions and encourage them in my role as a forum moderator for Kimkins.
.
I know full well how overwhelming it can be when you take those first steps on a weight loss journey, especially when you have a lot to lose. It used to seem hopeless to me, that I would not be able to achieve so much ... but here I am a year later, healthy and happy.
.
I am a real person and story, one that is a work in progress. I also am present on the site in a helping capacity, so if you are new to the site and Kimkins diet plan, please feel free to contact me in the forums or via private message (PM) with any questions.
.
Thanks for reading,

I also am present on the site in a helping capacity, so if you are new to the site and Kimkins diet plan, please feel free to contact me in the forums or via private message (PM) with any questions.
.

.
During a recent interview Giada was asked how she stays so thin (and reveals she eats pasta every day)! Her secret? Simple portion control.

Giada explains, "I eat a 1 1/2 cup serving of pasta – not a bowlful! At a restaurant I always ask for an appetizer portion.
.
People ask, 'How can you stop after a few bites?' Because I love those bites. I could eat 10 more. Instead, I look forward to the next time. It’s not like I’ll never have it again."

Total Loss: 80 lbs
Start: June 2007
End: not done yet!

Hi, I’m Melissa (MelissaPlasencia in Kimkins forums). I have put off being a success story for a few reasons.
.
First, I don’t really have a “story”… I didn’t have this huge trauma in my life or a big “aha” moment. I’m just a normal girl with normal struggles, little willpower and a lousy metabolism.

Second, I know my patterns when it comes to dieting, that I’m famous for finding “outs” and giving myself a “break” all too often and I have never made it to the finish line. I have had many times in my life where I’ve said “this is it!” and then failed miserably.

I have been overweight most of my life, I can remember back as far as 5th grade and being called a “pink elephant” when I thought I was “pretty in pink” on Valentine’s day. Went on every diet imaginable from junior high through high school and beyond.

Before I got married, I finally got to a pretty small size, for me, but I wasn’t proud of my success, as much of it was attributed to diet pills with ephedra in them (which I blame my recently discovered heart murmur on!). After I got pregnant with my first son all my efforts went down the toilet with the diet pills anyway. I put on 80 lbs during my first pregnancy, putting me at an all time high of 230 after I gave birth to my son.

I’m only 5’1, and had a BMI of about 40. I was a borderline candidate for gastric bypass. I struggled with postpartum depression for the first year after that, but managed to eventually start exercising and began to lose a little.

I felt a little better emotionally, got off my depression meds and was excited to start seeing a little success. Then I got pregnant again and POOF gained 60 lbs, putting me back at square one! Even with exercise during the second pregnancy, I still had no control over my eating. I was beginning to hate myself and the way I had morphed into this eating machine, using my pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever I wanted.

So in June of ’07 a friend of mine told me about Kimkins after she’d had some success of her own. I had just had my second son and decided that with 2 little ones (and a husband who has seen me at my worst!) it was time to cut the crap and get serious. I needed to realize it wasn’t just for me anymore. This was about 2 little boys and a loving husband who needed me to be here for them and be the BEST I could be.

I joined KK at roughly 220 lbs, dropped about 40 lbs right away and kept it off. And then fell back into my old patterns, gaining and losing the same 20 lbs for the past 2 and a half years.

I found the Sassy Sista's Challenge group a few months ago. I have finally dropped that stubborn 20 lbs and then some, thanks to their support and “no excuses” attitudes. We are a STRONG and opinionated group of girls who are very supportive and full of tough love! I am confident that with their help, I will continue my success, as well as encourage others to write their own success stories!

And my final reason for putting off this little story, it’s not finished yet! I am not at goal and I thought if I could put off sharing my success, it would push me to get to goal faster. That was not the case. I think I was afraid to get there, afraid of the unknown, so now I’m sharing this with you to get OVER the hump, over the fear, and ask for YOUR help in getting off the rest! I have the final 20 lb to drop and that will put me at my goal of 130 -- which will be 100 pounds lost!

I have never felt so empowered, so sexy, and most important, so healthy! I feel like I “missed out” on a lot of my 20s because I was hiding in shadows, hiding from cameras (I could barely find any “before” photos for this success story!), hiding from LIFE. I know I can’t get those years back, but I am a young 29 and finally feel ALIVE and full of energy! I’m excited to see my boys grow up, and I plan to be as active as they are and enjoy every second of their childhood before it’s gone!

I am proud of myself, the work I’ve put in (no matter how long it’s taken me!), I have not given up, have not thrown in the towel. I try to look at the big picture and how far I’ve come, it’s not a race, and life will happen and get in the way.

My success is not measured in how many times I fall, but rather how gracefully I get up, brush it off, and continue moving FORWARD. If I can help one other person feel this good, then I’ve done what I set out to do!

This was about 2 little boys and a loving husband who needed me to be here for them and be the BEST I could be.

.H-E-L-L-O all!!! I am Lei Lei!
.
I did Atkins in 2003 and lost 39 lbs, but when my husband and I bought a house and packed up the kitchen, I started eating out and month after month. I told my self I would go back to eating low carb 100% of the time. Needless to say IT NEVER HAPPENED!!! I have tried several other programs these last couple of years and they worked for a hot minute -- and I mean a hot minute -- then nothing.
.
In November of 2005 I tried the South Beach diet so I could fit into my wedding dress. I lost about 10 pounds over a 3 month period. On my wedding day January 28th 2006 I weighed 147. By the time March came I was up in the 150s -- then by June the 160s!
.
I kept telling myself I was going to start a diet and exercise program. I tried running on my treadmill and doing Pilates videos -- nothing happened, maybe a 3-4 pound loss. Then we went to Disney World in July 2006 and I ate 2 funnel cakes in one day at a park. Then it hit me, "This is why I am getting big! I have lost control."
.
At that point I should have done what worked for me LOW CARB, but no, I had to waste more time and try some other diet.
.
So during all of August 2006 I decided to do the Fitness model diet. You eat every 2-3 hours of fruits, complex carbs and whole grains. I did not gain or lose.
.
I realized I need to stick with what works for my body! So I went Googling and found Kimkins. At that time it was $29.99, but I didn't have all the money and it ended up costing me $59.00 but it was the best 59 dollars I have spent in years.
.
I originally started in Sept 2006 @ 163 lbs and lost about 11 pounds that first 7 days. Then my Aunt died and I lost focus. Then I did the diet during the week and cheated on the weekends. I was playing with my goal and it began to piss me off!
.
So what would be normally the worst time to start a new way of eating I chose December 11, 2006 to buckle down and do what I had to do. I went from 158.5 lbs to 127.5 lbs in just about 3 months! I would have just a few pounds left till goal.
.
My husband is loving my new look (and my son who is 14) says his friends think I am hot! What a boost of confidence!!! I just want to thank God for leading me to this website and putting the desire to buckle down and do this new way of eating.
.
Bless you Kimmer and all my new friends on Kimkins.com!
