I’ve been a low carb person for many years.  I lost about 25 pounds on Atkins a long time ago (before Dr. A’s New Diet Revolution) and kept most of it off.
.
In the past couple of years, though, I started to see it creeping back on.  I know exactly why – too many low-carb specialty products (bars, candy, etc.) and way too many calories.  I would eat until I was stuffed, especially at night. I could eat a huge bacon avocado cheeseburger with lots of mayo for dinner, and a big scoop of peanut butter mixed with cream for dessert!  Not exactly conducive to losing that last 15 pounds I always wanted to lose.
.
This past summer, I became resigned to the idea that I would never be any smaller than I was.  I was about to turn 48 years old, and at 140-145 pounds, I wasn’t all that bad.  After all, I was in early middle age, and if I hadn’t been able to lose any more weight before now, why not just accept it and be happy I was no heavier?
.
Then I read an interview with Kimmer on Jimmy Moore’s Livin’ La Vida Lowcarb blog. I joined Kimkins right then, but spent about 3 weeks reading posts from all over the site. I didn’t start right away.  Partly I was afraid it would be too strict for me after all the years of eating so much fat, and partly I was afraid I didn’t have enough weight to lose.
..
On my 25th wedding anniversary, after another large, high fat dinner, I thought, “What will it hurt to give it a shot?
.
I started a few days later, exactly one month before my 48th birthday.  I weighed 145 pounds and set my goal at 125, even though I thought it would be wonderful if I could just get down to the low 130s.
.
My only really hard day was the third when I felt nauseous.  I thought, “If I feel like this for much longer, I won’t be able to do it.”  But I hung in there, thanks to having read other members’ posts about what to expect from SNATT.  The next morning I felt better and beginning the 5th day, I felt more energetic than I could remember in a long time.
.
Plus, the scale had started to move down.  I lost 7 pounds the first week, and 2 the second.  After one month, on my birthday, I’d lost 15 pounds and weighed 130!  (So much for settling for the “low” 130s!)  I lost another 5 pounds in less than a month, hitting my goal weight of 125 – a 20-pound loss – just 7 weeks after I started.
.
Although I consider myself on maintenance, I’ve lost 5 more pounds in the last 6 weeks, so I revised my goal to 120.  That’s what I weigh today.  The last time I weighed 120, I was in 8th grade.
.
I can’t believe this was possible all along!  I can see now I was letting myself eat way too much all those years, even though I was eating a technically low carb diet.
.
I now wear between a size 8 and 10.  I’d never worn those sizes in my life, so I didn’t have any “skinny clothes” to go to as I lost weight.  I’ve had to buy all new things – even my underwear was falling off me.  What a happy problem to have!
.
Kimkins really, really works.  Even on someone who was already a died-in-the-wool low carb believer.  Even on someone who didn’t have a huge amount of weight to lose.
.
I’m grateful to Dr. Atkins for standing virtually alone for years against the naysayers.  I’m grateful to Jimmy Moore for using his excellent blog to get the word out to even more people.  And most of all, I’m so very grateful to Kimmer for being willing to pour herself into helping us.
